Pride

Pride is all about celebrating and being proud of who we are. But it's also a moment of reflection on how far we have come and how far we need to go to ensure equality for all LGBTQI+ people. If you are looking to learn more or just have a good time we have amazing offers that will bring something special to Pride this year.

British Military Nursing in Peace and War Exhibition at Florence Nightingale Museum

Happening on Saturday 24 June, British Military Nursing in Peace and War is the new permanent exhibition at the Florence Nightingale Museum, London. The exhibit connects the contributions of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole in the Crimean War to the development of military nursing to present.  Through the stories of individual nurses, it highlights experiences of war and peacetime from across the tri-service.

Celebrating another pioneering military nurse, on Sunday 25 June the Museum will host former British Army Nurse and LGBTQ+ activist Elaine Chambers for a talk and audience Q&A.

In 1987, Elaine was a serving Army Nurse when she was suddenly dismissed from her dream job after an investigation into her sexuality. In fact, Elaine was one of thousands whose careers were cut short as at the time LGBTQ+ people were legally banned from serving in the British armed forces.
