Newcastle Castle, nestled in the heart of Newcastle, is where the story of the city began and the origin behind its name.
Steeped in history, this imposing Norman fortress is a rugged reminder of northern England's turbulent history. This was no baron's stately home, but rather a place where armies gathered and criminals were imprisoned and executed.
Newcastle Castle consists of two buildings which are both open to the public to explore - the Black Gate and the Castle Keep - as well as offering some of the most spectacular views over the city and the River Tyne Newcastle has to offer.
