Camden Town is a sea of entertainment. It overflows with a variety of colourful markets, shops, restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs, theatres and cinemas. The town attracts enormous crowds of Londoners and tourists alike, while the markets themselves consist of over 1,000 shops and stalls; as a result of the 100,000 visitors each weekend they are now the fourth-most popular visitor attraction in London.
The Camden Markets are a number of adjoining large retail markets in Camden Town in North West London - a walk along the pretty canal towpath from Regent's Park will take you right into the heart of the action. With both open-air and indoor markets lining streets of shops, bars and restaurants, each one has its own flavour and experience.
Many of the stalls are set in large arches in the railway viaducts to add to the bohemian atmosphere that the markets have retained since their opening in 1974, and chain stores are not permitted. The stalls sell a wide variety of individualistic products, including bric-a-brac, books, jewellery, second-hand clothing and crafts.
The complex of Camden Market is split into six sections, each with its own focus and essence, so no matter what you're looking for in both experience and products, you'll be sure to find it!
